I'm halfway through this now -- maaaan Thomas was the master at the Sunday Special. Covers, demos, live performances ... And nice intro, Dave.

My buddy Guy Phillips, who spent about a year at Tech before tranferring out, wrote this:

What I loved about the tape was that it made me listen to things I wouldn't have otherwise listened to. That's what I love about independent radio. I was familiar with the names of some of the bands, but for whatever reason never took to them. It was radio at its best.

I'm totally blown away that you guys got this stuff up here. In addition to Thomas, WREK and myselft, Julie Wolffe contributed several of the albums we played that night. Thematically, it was about the vibe more than the actual lyrics or even the musical style, hence Conway Twitty as the opener. As usual with Thomas, everything about doing the show together was easy, low conflict and fun--and you got to share something good at the end of the day (or evening, in this case).

Those playlist sheet scans turned out great! Considering how tiny they were since Thomas photoreduced them to fit into the cassette case.

As I recall, Personality Crisis used to run until 11:30, 90 minutes in length. For a while Jon followed it with a half hour syndicated program called "Music View", hosted by John Fox, but otherwise he just went into evening/overnight programming. Of course Personality Crisis runs a full two hours now, and we're all the better for it.

It's not on the tape, but from the playlist you can see that Thomas and Arthur basically kept doing their thing until midnight anyway!

Wow just was looking on WREK to see whats scheduled to play and find out another kindred spirit from the days of Milo's and Metroplex gone. At least I got to see u at the metroplex reuonion Thomas! I'll never forget how u twisted my arm into dj'ing all summer (instead of partying) since I had a punk rock nightclub I owed it to the punk community back in '93. So I threw small parties at the station. I wondered why u never returned my calls. Any body holla if u know me tell me what's up! I'm doing a charity www.globalpeacecontainers.com now btw I'm glad Thomas was proud of me, what a great guy. The goods ones go first! Brendan Digel hangin with a bunch of Pius buds and your reunion is this year! holla!

Great intro Dave!

That Magic Bone song that starts things off makes me want to jump around like an idiot. Witt would hammer the hell out of his bass.

Note to anyone else reading this: we'll have the playlist (the original "live sheets") posted here in a day or two.

[...] Also, Chris Campbell and I launched yesterday our Peakecast project. It is an ongoing collection of any audio we can scare up from Thomas’ career as a DJ, a music historian, a writer about and compiler of music. We begin with the audio I already published a few weeks ago, and our second episode will be the show Thomas did as a tribute when Witt Mills died in 2000. If you have any recordings of audio from Thomas, please submit it to the show. [...]
